A former Buckingham Palace staffer has shed new light on Meghan Markle’s alleged interactions with Prince William, claiming her affectionate nature often left the heir to the throne feeling uncomfortable.

Speaking to The Times, the insider explained that Meghan’s warm and tactile personality clashed with the more reserved nature of Prince William, King Charles, and Kate Middleton.

The source noted that Meghan, who embraced a “hug everyone” approach, frequently greeted William with physical affection, which reportedly caused discomfort among the royal family. “Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other,” the staffer revealed.

The source further claimed that Meghan’s gestures unintentionally sparked speculation among palace staff. “The hugging and cheek-kissing fueled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William, which she was obviously not,” the insider clarified. “But the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers.”

According to the staffer, William’s reserved demeanor—something he inherited from King Charles—clashed with Meghan’s more spontaneous and expressive personality. “In fact, William’s rather awkward, even inhibited personality—an inheritance from his father—was baffling for the more spontaneous Meghan,” the source added.

While Meghan’s physical displays of affection may have been second nature to her, they reportedly stood in stark contrast to the royal family’s traditional approach to interactions, further fueling the already strained relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William.

These revelations come amid ongoing tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family, with reports suggesting that the brothers have yet to mend their fractured relationship.

As Meghan and Harry continue to build their life in the U.S., insights from palace insiders continue to offer a glimpse into the cultural and personal differences that may have contributed to their royal fallout.
