The View co-host Ana Navarro and comedian Amy Schumer shared a heartfelt moment on Monday, February 3, after learning they are distant relatives. The revelation came during Schumer’s appearance on The View, where Navarro surprised her with the unexpected family connection.

“The host of Finding Your Roots on PBS was here last week. He traced your ancestry some seasons ago,” Navarro told Schumer. “It turns out, you and I have something in common,” she added, as reported by PEOPLE.

Both Navarro and Schumer had previously appeared on Finding Your Roots, the popular genealogy series hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., which traces celebrities’ ancestral histories. Upon hearing the news, Schumer lit up with excitement. “Cousin! Cousin!” she exclaimed before embracing Navarro in a joyful hug.

Navarro playfully questioned their unexpected lineage. “Did you know there were wandering Schumers in Nicaragua? How did this happen?” she asked. Schumer, still thrilled by the discovery, responded enthusiastically. “I had no idea, but I’m so honored. We have to start hanging out more,” she said.

However, Navarro jokingly warned the Trainwreck star that spending time together might come with some unintended consequences. “It’ll ruin your reputation,” she quipped before adding, “But you know what? Maybe ICE won’t take me if I’m hanging out with a blonde like you.”

Navarro, a Nicaraguan-American political strategist, had previously explored her family history on Finding Your Roots in an October 2017 episode. At the time, she was stunned to learn of her ancestral connection to Schumer and, by extension, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer.

“I was surprised to know I have an unbroken DNA thread with Amy Schumer, which also means [Senator] Chuck Schumer,” Navarro said. “I don’t know what this means for my reputation and his reputation. Oh, Lord!” In that same episode, Navarro also discovered that one of her ancestors had been a slave, a revelation that deeply moved her.

“I’ve always been very touched by stories about slavery, about civil rights, but now they’re not just abstract history. Now it’s also my own history,” she shared. “To know that I’ve got that inside of me was very meaningful.”

Reflecting on her discoveries, Navarro emphasized the importance of looking beyond surface-level differences. “How we look on the outside may not be the entire story,” she noted. “Too often today, we get hung up on labels.”

She added, “Whether you’re White, Brown, or Black, Democrat or Republican, conservative or progressive—don’t get too caught up in external labels because what’s going on internally is often much different.”

The surprise family connection between Navarro and Schumer adds an unexpected twist to their already dynamic careers, proving that history—and genetics—can sometimes bring together the most unlikely of relatives.
