Jim Carrey shared a playful glimpse into his relationship with his oldest grandson, Jackson, revealing that the 14-year-old takes particular joy in defeating him at video games.

At the U.K. premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on Tuesday, December 10, Carrey, 62, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the lighthearted rivalry he shares with Jackson. “He loves to beat me at video games,” Carrey joked, referencing his role in the popular Sonic film franchise. “He’s cruel.”

The legendary comedian admitted he tries to humorously push back against his grandson’s gaming dominance, playfully teasing him about a future comeback. “When I lose, I threaten that I’m going to get really good someday and kick his butt,” Carrey said with a smile.

However, Jackson always has the perfect comeback. Carrey recounted their exchange: “He tells me, ‘You know how you can win against me?’ I say, ‘How?’ And he goes, ‘You can be born again in a different era.’” Jackson is the son of Carrey’s daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, who is also a mom to son Logan and daughter Erin.

This isn’t the first time Carrey has shared his grandson’s knack for video games. During a 2020 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Carrey revealed that Jackson had already been “schooling” him in the Sonic game, even at the age of 9.

“He’s wiping the floor with me in every respect,” Carrey said at the time. “I get angry, and I put money in the swear jar … I finally got fed up because he likes to trash talk me too. He’s 9; it’s really scary.”

Carrey’s candid remarks highlight his fun-loving bond with Jackson and showcase the playful dynamic they share. Known for his comedic charm and larger-than-life personality, Carrey’s experiences as a grandfather reflect his trademark humor, even when he’s on the losing end of a video game battle.

The Sonic the Hedgehog star continues to blend his family life with his film career, bringing smiles to audiences both on screen and off. Whether it’s through a humorous loss or a lighthearted threat to “kick butt” in the future, Carrey’s connection with his grandson is proof that family fun transcends generations—even if it means being “born again in a different era.”
