Kanye West has reportedly been living outside the United States for an extended period, citing feelings of “feeling unsafe” in his home country. This decision comes amid mounting legal troubles and intense media attention, particularly from paparazzi.

A source close to West shared with Daily Mail that the rapper and fashion mogul feels constantly hounded in the US. “They are hounded when they are in the United States, and they never feel truly safe,” the insider explained. “The United States is the only country that Kanye is in where he is constantly getting into scuffles that get him in trouble.”

The source continued to explain how the media landscape in the US differs from abroad, noting that the attention from the paparazzi is a major irritant for the West. “He is just sick of people invading his space, and when they are abroad, this doesn’t happen. People respect him more,” they added.

West has had multiple run-ins with the paparazzi in the past, leading to frustration with the constant invasion of his privacy. For several months, West has been staying in luxury hotels in Japan, where he is reportedly experiencing a sense of peace and calm that he says is hard to find in the US.

A friend of West told music journalist Touré, “In LA he’s got a war with the paparazzi. He does not like the paparazzi.” The friend went on to explain that in Japan, West feels a “different level of peace of mind,” which has allowed him to focus on his music.

“Because your mind is at ease. Your mind is at rest. You’re not paranoid about anything,” the friend summarized. In addition to his time in Japan, West has also been enjoying the Maldives, where he celebrated the New Year and his wife Bianca Censori’s 30th birthday.

According to a source speaking to The U.S. Sun, West flew in some of Bianca’s family for the occasion. “They have been villa hopping at the resort and enjoying the amenities,” the insider said, adding, “But they plan to party for Bianca’s birthday on Sunday and make it a special occasion.”

As West continues his life abroad, it’s clear that his struggle with the constant media attention in the US has led him to seek out a quieter, more peaceful existence in places like Japan and the Maldives.
