Jennifer Lopez gets candid about motherhood troubles amid divorce woes: “Am I Enough for Them?”
In a candid interview promoting her new film Unstoppable, Jennifer Lopez opened up about the challenges of being a mother and the emotional struggles she faces while raising her 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme. The 55-year-old pop icon, who has had her fair share of personal challenges, reflected on her experiences as a single mother, admitting that at times she questions if she is doing enough for her children.
“I’ve been a single mother at times in my life and I’ve wondered ‘Am I enough for them?'” Lopez shared with Marca. “And the truth is, all you need is a parent who loves you.” Lopez, who plays the role of Judy Robles in Unstoppable—the mother of NCAA National Champion wrestler Anthony Robles—draws parallels between her own life and the real-life story of the wrestler, who was born with one leg but went on to achieve greatness.
She added, “You hear it in Anthony’s voice, and look at what he’s been able to accomplish.” Lopez’s portrayal of Judy Robles resonated deeply with the real-life Judy, who praised Lopez’s ability to capture the emotional complexities of a mother’s love and struggles. “She (JLo) was really able to take on how I was feeling – the ups and downs.
We long to be loved and we want to achieve what seems impossible to do, even when we see it and think ‘I have to keep pushing’, there is always a little hope,” Judy said. Lopez, who shares her twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, has always prioritized her children. In fact, she recently announced that she would be canceling her This Is Me… Live tour in May to spend the summer with Max and Emme.
“I decided to take the summer off and be home with the kids and I think it was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life,” she said. “It’s not like me to do that, and when it comes up, I like to apologize to the fans because I know where a lot of them are coming from.”
The pop star, who is going through a divorce from Ben Affleck, also spent the summer bonding with his children—Violet, 19, Serafina, 15, and Samuel, 12—whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Lopez’s role as a mother has taken center stage, as she navigates life as both a successful performer and a dedicated parent.
