Louise Thompson opened up about her life-threatening medical emergency: “I Felt Like I Was Going to Die”
Louise Thompson and her fiancé Ryan Libbey became emotional as they shared the details of a terrifying medical emergency that almost cost Thompson her life. On their podcast He Said, She Said, the 34-year-old actress opened up about her experience with peritonitis, which led to septic shock and required emergency surgery in November.
Thompson revealed how her health took a sudden turn for the worse, describing an agonizing night spent writhing in pain. “To be honest I took a whole load of painkillers and nothing scratched the surface. I was writhing around in pain all night and at about 4 am, I think I’d managed to finally drift off a little bit,” she began, choking up as she recalled the pain.
She continued, “I was hit with a really excruciating level of pain and I will say this is the most amount of pain I’ve been in, in my life. I’ve probably said that a number of times before but this was a whole different level and immediately excruciating. I knew from that moment that this was really bad.”
Thompson went on to explain how the situation became even more frightening as her body seemed to betray her. “I thought if I don’t die with whatever is inside of me, I’m going to die from the sheer pain of it because I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack,” she said, describing the intensity of her ordeal.
The Made In Chelsea star then shared the details of her life-threatening condition, which was diagnosed as peritonitis, a serious infection of the abdominal lining. “I had something called Peritonitis, which can be life-threatening, it’s really dangerous. I basically had septic fluid exploding all around my abdomen, like free fluid. That can then be very damaging to your organs,” she explained.
Despite her grave situation, Thompson expressed feelings of guilt and embarrassment. “I feel embarrassed, I genuinely feel embarrassed that this is happening because I just feel that my body has let me down,” she admitted, adding a deeply personal touch to the emotional recounting.
Thompson’s health scare served as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be, and she expressed gratitude for the medical care that ultimately saved her life. The ordeal has had a profound impact on both her and Libbey, leaving them with a new perspective on what really matters.
