Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have embarked on a new chapter, settling into the British countryside after leaving their Montecito, California, home. According to reports, the couple moved to the Cotswolds in November 2024, motivated by disillusionment with the U.S. following Donald Trump’s re-election.

Sources told TMZ that Ellen and Portia had purchased their new home prior to the election but decided to make the move permanent after the results. “They became very disillusioned and decided to get the hell out,” the source claimed.

While neither Ellen nor Portia has publicly linked their move to the election, Ellen’s political leanings are well known. In August 2024, she endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris for president, writing on Instagram: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come. I can’t wait for Kamala Harris to be our next president.”

The couple’s new home in the idyllic Cotswolds, a rural area in Southwest England, is reportedly a multimillion-pound farmhouse converted into a luxury property, complete with a swimming pool and helicopter pad. Their neighborhood boasts an array of high-profile residents, including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, and Sir Patrick Stewart. King Charles and Queen Camilla also have an estate nearby in Gloucestershire, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Since moving, Ellen has shared glimpses of her life in the UK. On December 1, she addressed rumors about her property being affected by Storm Bert, writing on Instagram: “P.S. For those of you concerned, our UK farmhouse did NOT flood.” She humorously added hashtags like #NotFlooded and #WeNamedHimSteve in a later post about a swan swimming in their “river meadow.”

The couple has embraced the local culture, as seen in a November visit to a pub called The Farmer’s Dog, owned by TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson. A joint Instagram post from the pub and singer-songwriter Natalie Imbruglia featured Ellen and Portia enjoying beers and live music with friends. Ellen’s hair, noticeably darker than her usual blonde, caught attention in the video as she waved to the camera alongside Portia.

Ellen’s relocation comes two years after she ended The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May 2022, following a 19-season run and controversy over workplace allegations. In her 2024 Netflix comedy special, For Your Approval, Ellen addressed the backlash humorously, saying, “I got kicked out of show business. Yeah, ’cause I’m mean.” She also announced her retirement from comedy, stating, “I’m done.”

Despite her move, Ellen briefly returned to California in January 2025, marking her first public sighting in the U.S. since settling in England. For now, it seems Ellen and Portia are fully embracing their new life across the pond.
