“Age is age”—Jennifer Love Hewitt details ‘acceptance’ amid ‘hard’ online hate
Jennifer Love Hewitt is speaking out against the online hate she faces regarding her appearance. The 45-year-old actress recently opened up to Fox News Digital about the unrealistic expectations internet trolls have, particularly their desire for her to look the same as she did in her early twenties.
Despite enduring a lot of online criticism, Hewitt has embraced the aging process and come to terms with it. “Age is age,” she told the outlet. “I think women really come into this… acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”
However, she also revealed that one of the major challenges she faces in the industry is the pressure to look exactly like she did during her early roles in Heartbreakers and I Know What You Did Last Summer. “The times that it’s hard for me though… I feel like fans pick… this age that they love that they think represents you, and you’re never supposed to grow beyond that,” she explained.
Hewitt went on to share that for her, the specific age fans seem to cling to is her 20s, a period she feels people have a hard time accepting as being in the past. “For me… it was like me and my 20s … people seem to have a really hard time accepting that … I don’t look that way anymore,” she said.
In her candid interview, the actress reflected on the natural process of aging, saying, “It’s hard because I think as humans, we want to evolve … we want to have lines on our faces, and you know our boobs to be lower from breast-feeding our children, or you know our butt’s bigger.”
Hewitt concluded with an emotional statement about how online negativity affects her. “It’s hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because they’re having a hard time adjusting to it,” she said.
In sharing her experience, Hewitt encourages acceptance of aging and embracing the changes that come with life. Despite the criticisms, she remains resolute in her belief that women’s comfort and self-acceptance are beautiful at any age.
