Dolly Parton Says, “We’re Looking for Performers Who Can Capture the Spirit of My Journey” for Broadway Musical

Dolly Parton is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring performers to play her in Dolly: An Original Musical, an upcoming Broadway show that chronicles her life. The legendary singer, songwriter, and actress announced an open casting call for the role of Dolly at various ages, aiming to find someone who can bring her “incredible life” to the stage.
In a heartfelt YouTube video, Parton, 78, expressed her excitement about the project. “I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway—and maybe even play me!” Parton said. “This show is a celebration of my music, my life, and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way.”
Parton is not only writing the music for the musical but also co-writing the book and producing the show. The casting call invites talented performers, whether experienced theatre professionals or “undiscovered gems with that little special something,” to audition for the chance to portray the iconic entertainer at different stages of her career. “Now, we’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey,” Parton added.
Finalists chosen from online auditions will be invited for an in-person audition with the show’s casting director. The musical was initially titled Hello, I’m Dolly, after Parton’s 1967 debut album, and it has evolved into Dolly: An Original Musical as it develops. Parton announced the project in June at CMA Fest in Nashville, where she revealed her partnership with ATG Productions to bring her life story to the Broadway stage.
With Parton’s involvement in every aspect of the production, from writing the music to personally selecting the cast, Dolly: An Original Musical promises to be a true celebration of the artist’s legendary career and inspiring journey.
