Gwen Stefani recently revealed a surprising near-miss moment with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio while reflecting on her brief acting stint in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 55-year-old singer shared the details of her unforgettable experience on set.

“Not in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine I would be in a movie,” Stefani said, recalling the unexpected turn her career took in 2004. The No Doubt frontwoman was cast as Jean Harlow, the iconic 1930s blonde bombshell, in Scorsese’s biopic about aviation mogul Howard Hughes, played by DiCaprio.

“But not only was I in a movie, but I was in a Martin Scorsese movie playing Jean Harlow, and I almost got to kiss Leonardo DiCaprio,” she revealed. However, to the disappointment of fans — and perhaps Gwen herself — the on-screen kiss never happened.

“But I didn’t get to, so too late for that,” she quipped with a laugh. Reflecting on the unexpected opportunity, Gwen admitted the experience was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. “It turned out to be one of the most incredible, scary experiences of my life,” she said.

Without any prior acting experience, Gwen explained how she landed the coveted role. “I didn’t have any skills, I just tried out,” she confessed. “I went to the Bel-Air Hotel, and they were just literally trying out girls, just walking in and trying out.”

Gwen described how she walked into the audition, performed the scene, and was taken aback by the warm reception. “I remember I walked in, did the scene, and they were so nice.” To her surprise, she landed the part. “Martin made me feel so normal and comfortable, and I got the part!”

Though her role was small, Gwen remains proud of the achievement. “I had like three lines, but I got the part, okay?!” she joked, highlighting the surreal nature of working with a legendary director and a Hollywood A-lister.

While the near-kiss with DiCaprio never materialized, Gwen’s brief foray into acting left her with a unique memory — one she still cherishes as an unexpected milestone in her career.
