Indiana Man Allegedly Strangles Pregnant 29-Year-Old Girlfriend to Death
An Indiana man is facing multiple murder charges after allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend when she refused to terminate her pregnancy. Vidol Wegner, 29, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony murder following the death of 30-year-old Ariel Nevills.
Nevills, who was seven months pregnant, was found with fatal injuries in her Spring Hill, Tennessee, home on January 20. Authorities were dispatched to the 2000 block of Gale Lane around 6 a.m. after Wegner himself requested a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers discovered Nevills’ body and arrested Wegner, who was detained on suspicion of her murder.
A statement from the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the details of the case: “Officers went to the house and located a 30-year-old woman who had sustained fatal wounds. The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office detained the person who placed the phone call. That person is Vidol Wegner, a 29-year-old Indiana man who was in a relationship with the deceased woman.”
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WSMV, Wegner admitted to strangling Nevills and her unborn child, explaining to authorities that he used “both hands around the neck and his forearm” to ensure she was dead before leaving the residence. A second warrant, cited by Williamson Scene, alleged that Wegner described carrying out the strangulation in “two different ways.”
Despite his confession to law enforcement, Wegner maintained his innocence in a bizarre interview with WKRN. Claiming he and Nevills had agreed early in their relationship to terminate any pregnancy, he expressed frustration that she had decided to keep the baby. “When I started that relationship, I told her, ‘If we get pregnant, are we going to do something about it?’ She said, ‘Yeah,’” Wegner said.
“When she found out 10 weeks in, she said, ‘I want to keep it,’” he continued. “I’m like, ‘Didn’t we have that conversation? I’m not doing this.’” He added, “I got plenty of remorse, man! It didn’t have to happen this way!”
Nevills’ death has left her friends and family heartbroken. Tributes poured in on social media, describing her as a kind and loving person. “I will miss u sis so much!!” wrote one friend. Another shared, “Ariel was the sweetest lady. My heart is so broken.”
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, as Wegner remains in custody awaiting trial. Nevills’ tragic death has sparked outrage and grief, with loved ones remembering her as a beautiful soul who will be deeply missed.
