Texas Man Faces Capital Murder Charges After Allegedly Killing Ex-Girlfriend and Her New Partner
A Texas man has been denied bond after allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in a tragic incident earlier this week. The double homicide occurred on Monday night in Atascocita, a northeastern neighborhood of Houston, leaving a community in shock.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 10:46 p.m. reporting a shooting at a residence in the 8000 block of Redwood Drive. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found 30-year-old Alejandro Suarez lying unconscious with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead shortly after, told Click2Houston.
Nearby, 26-year-old Charity Freeman was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she, too, was pronounced dead. Following an investigation, Yamil Javier Rivera-Perez, 34, was identified as the shooter and arrested.
Rivera-Perez now faces capital murder charges, which carry the possibility of life imprisonment or the death penalty. Rivera-Perez and Freeman had reportedly been involved in a brief but abusive relationship. Freeman’s family revealed that she ended the relationship last year, seeking to protect herself and her two young children, ages 4 and 2.
Investigators allege that Rivera-Perez forced his way into the home on the night of the incident, shooting both Freeman and Suarez. Freeman’s brother, who was at the house during the attack, stated that Rivera-Perez kicked in the gate, rushed upstairs, and fatally shot the couple. He added that he had been downstairs with Freeman’s children at the time, shielding them from the horrific violence.
The Freeman family is reportedly trying to establish contact with Suarez’s family to offer their condolences. Freeman’s two young children are now in the care of their grandmother. No official motive has been disclosed, but the investigation continues.
Authorities have indicated that the incident appears to be linked to Freeman’s past abusive relationship with Rivera-Perez. The tragedy has left many in the community heartbroken, as two young children are now left without their mother.
“Charity was a loving mother who wanted to build a better life for herself and her children,” a family member shared. As the case unfolds, Freeman’s family urges victims of domestic violence to seek help and support. They hope the tragedy will raise awareness about the devastating consequences of abusive relationships.
