However, body language expert Judi James offered a more nuanced interpretation. Speaking to the Irish Star, James argued that Jill Biden’s behavior showed discomfort, not warmth.
“Jill Biden had Ashley to use as a body language ‘excuse’ for inching away from Trump in this seated line-up,” James explained. “She crossed her legs away from Trump and part-turned her body and attention towards Ashley.” James pointed to Jill’s crossed hands and inward-sucked lips as additional signs of unease.
Brigitte Macron, according to James, served as a “human buffer,” attempting to diffuse tension by engaging Trump in animated conversation. The interaction came amidst lingering tension between the Bidens and Trumps, following Jill Biden’s prior efforts to extend a handwritten congratulatory note to Melania Trump—a gesture reportedly rebuffed due to the FBI raid against Trump.
