Experts Question Kamala Harris’ Sobriety and Alleged Drinking Problem in Post-Election Video

Vice President Kamala Harris has come under scrutiny after a recent video sparked speculation about her sobriety. Some experts have questioned whether she might have been under the influence of alcohol while filming the message, following her loss in the 2024 presidential election to Republican Donald Trump.

Shot in California and posted on the Democrats’ X handle on November 27, the video marked Harris’ first public appearance since the election results. In the clip, the 60-year-old politician delivered a motivational message to supporters: “I just have to remind you, don’t you ever let anybody take your power from you.

You have the same power that you did before Nov 5, and you have the same purpose that you did.” However, some observers noted that Harris appeared bleary-eyed and her speech seemed somewhat slurred. Additionally, her exaggerated hand movements led to speculation about her possible intoxication.

Several experts spoke to the Daily Mail about Harris’ behavior in the video. Dr. Stuart Fischer, an emergency medicine specialist based in New York, pointed out Harris’ head movements, which he described as suspicious. “She’s not royally drunk, but that’s definitely the right word [tipsy],” he stated. Dr. Fischer noted that Harris’ speech seemed slightly slurred, and the head-bobbing movement resembled someone who had consumed an intoxicant but was still attempting to give a serious speech.

He added that exhaustion from the election was unlikely given that some time had passed since the results. Psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman, who has experience working with alcoholics, also expressed doubts about Harris’ sobriety. She noted Harris’ half-closed eyes, rambling speech, and hand gestures, suggesting that the vice president may have consumed alcohol beforehand, per a report by Baseline. 

“When you are drunk, you are less inhibited, and that is what we are seeing here,” Lieberman hypothesized. However, body language expert Judi James offered a different perspective. She suggested that Harris’ exaggerated movements could have been an attempt to connect with the public, portraying herself as likable and expressing her emotions authentically after the election loss.

“This is a very verbose speech that combines Harris’ talent for the word salad with her signature body language rituals that try to persuade you that you are listening to some extremely profound, motivational thoughts and messages,” James explained.

Harris has faced previous rumors about alcohol use, though none have been substantiated. These speculations have been amplified by political opponents, with Trump 2024 political director James Blair fueling the rumors after a separate video surfaced of Harris speaking slowly at a rally in September. Despite the lack of evidence, the internet has fixated on Harris’ alleged drinking problem, contrasting it with Trump’s own controversies.
