First Lady Melania Trump is expected to embrace her role in the White House with “much more confidence” during President Donald Trump’s second term, The Mirror reported on Saturday, January 25. Dubbed “Melania 2.0” by author and first lady historian Kate Andersen Brower, the 54-year-old is taking steps to redefine her public image and expand her influence.

Among Melania’s efforts to stand out is the launch of a cryptocurrency initiative alongside her husband and her decision to move into the White House with a film crew to complete a documentary on her life. The documentary, which began production in November, is in its final stages and is expected to reflect a new wave of confidence for the first lady.

Melania officially moved into the White House on January 20, the day of the presidential inauguration, bringing the film crew with her. The documentary announcement followed the release of her biography, Melania: A Memoir, in October 2024. The book quickly climbed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list and became one of the year’s most popular titles on Amazon.

Amazon Prime, owned by Trump ally Jeff Bezos, reportedly purchased the documentary’s rights for $40 million and plans to stream it later this year. Despite the historic tradition of the first lady role being unpaid, Brower speculates that Melania may be seeking to monetize her position.

“You get no pay as first lady. There’s nothing in the constitution that describes her role,” Brower told The Daily Mail. “By monetizing that position, it diminishes it. But Melania has ‘Trumpified’ the role of first lady. There’s a level of greed we haven’t seen before.”

Brower noted that Melania appears to prioritize financial control over her name and brand. “If anyone’s going to make money from her name, it’s going to be her. The Trumps go after people making even a penny by writing about them because they believe that money should be theirs.”

Melania’s second term as first lady may also see a shift in her relationship with Donald Trump, particularly in public displays of affection. “I think we’ll see them being more affectionate,” Brower predicted. “The trauma of assassination attempts has really rocked her world and reaffirmed her commitment to him.”

Reflecting on Melania’s infamous hand-swatting moment during a 2017 visit to Israel, Brower noted that the first lady’s icy demeanor may soften. Melania later clarified in her memoir that the gesture was misunderstood, writing, “It was a minor innocent gesture, nothing more.”

As Melania Trump steps into her second term, she seems poised to redefine the role of first lady on her own terms, whether Americans approve or not.
