Prince Harry recently opened up about the intense public fascination and scrutiny surrounding his marriage to Meghan Markle during a candid interview with New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the Dealbook Summit 2024 in New York. The Duke of Sussex, known for his outspoken nature, didn’t hold back as he addressed the constant speculation about his personal life.

Sorkin, ever curious, mentioned that he had “Google Newsed” Prince Harry before their conversation and found a multitude of articles speculating about their solo outings and what those meant for their relationship. “Because you invited me, you should have known!” Harry quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

The conversation turned to the relentless attention the couple received, especially regarding rumors about their marriage. Sorkin asked, “Is that normal for you? The second there’s an article — she’s in California, you’re in New York — they say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there’s so much interest in you?”

Harry, without hesitation, replied, “No, that’s definitely not a good thing.” He went on to explain how rumors about their life have been exaggerated, saying, “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, or 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, what?”

The prince expressed his frustration with the media’s portrayal of his life and relationships, acknowledging how the stories seemed to have no basis in reality. “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” he said.

However, Harry didn’t let the conversation go without acknowledging the individuals who thrive on such rumors. “The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls,” he remarked. “Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So, I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

In an unexpected twist, Harry also predicted that his words would likely be spun into something negative, adding, “I have no doubt that this conversation will be spun or twisted somehow against me, and maybe you yourself will be trolled relentlessly.” He then joked, “For that, I can only apologize, but you did invite me, so it’s not my fault.”

His comments come amid ongoing reports of tension between Harry and Meghan, with rumors swirling about them “separating professionally.” Their joint ventures have reportedly failed to garner the attention they expected, and whispers suggest that the couple may have purchased a home in Portugal for a ‘Golden Visa,’ which would provide them with easier access to travel within Europe.

Whether it’s rumors about their marriage, their career choices, or their travel plans, it seems the public fascination with the Sussexes continues to fuel speculation. But one thing is clear—Prince Harry is not letting it get to him.
